“Kältegang Leverkusen - ehrenamtliche Obdachlosenhilfe mit Herz” (Volunteer help with heart for homeless people) is a project of Make it happen e.V.
The area of operation fo this project is Leverkusen and the surrounding area.
The original plan was to run the "Kältegang-Project" for one winter only. However, we quickly realized that the problems and needs of the people affected meant a permanent year-round task.
At the beginning of our mission, we were talking about 360 people affected (the number of unreported cases not included). Currently (2024) there are 600.
Initially, we found it difficult to make contact with the homeless people. They were very reserved and shy. That's why it was good to move around with a handcart at first.
Today, we regularly serve hot meals to our protégés on the market square in Wiesdorf (a district of Leverkusen) and provide them with everything they need for life on the street. Whether outdoor equipment, canned food or clothing. We do our best to make life on the street easier for our protégés.
This task requires full commitment, as there is no season for our homeless protégés. In summer it is thirst and shade, in spring and fall rain, in winter cold and ice.
However, we need your help and support so that we can fulfill our mission for the poorest of the poor.
