About this project

For girls experiencing violence at home, the situation has worsened in the Corona crisis. Physical, psychological and sexual violence have increased. Since the initial lockdown, inquiries to FeM at the counseling center have increased by 10 percent.

FeM offered animal-assisted therapy for the first time in 2020 to support the girls, in addition to therapeutic support and emergency counseling. Under the title "Think Positive! Doggy Power for Girls!", a specially trained educator and her specially trained dogs were recruited to test this offer on a voluntary basis.  The offer was strongly demanded by the girls, besides, a positive reinforcement of the therapy showed up fast. FeM therefore decided after this test phase to include animal-assisted empowerment as an addition to its range of help for girls in crisis situations. Under the motto "Think positive! Doggy Power for Girls!" the educator will offer weekly appointments on Mondays from 3 to 6 p.m. in individual settings of 50 minutes from summer 2021 until December 2021. For this we ask for a subsidy for personnel costs, therapy materials, dog food (e.g. treats), material costs. In 2022, the offer is to be further expanded and made permanent. The costs for this amount to about 8,600 euros per year.
Public funds are not available for the offer.

Think positive! Doggy Power for Girls!

The offer of animal-assisted work is aimed at girls and young women between the ages of 10 and 21. In direct contact with two trained therapy dogs, they can experience and gain positive and empowering experiences. The goal is to improve their well-being, to experience support in difficult phases of life and to recognize and strengthen their own abilities. The joy and fun in dealing with the dogs are the center of attention.
