New Life Children's center was started in 2004 by the leadership of pastor Joseph Wandati. The project came into being after it was evident that many children in Mariakani were either orphans or single parented. This was because of HIV prevalence, the rate of infection is high because Mariakani is a stop over of many long distance trailers.
The project started with 15 children who were mainly orphans, one teacher was employed to take care of the children. One cook was assigned the duty to cook and take care of the children.

Now we have a total of 60 children, out of these 20 are orphans. These children are fed at school, general the school takes care of all their needs. We have 1 teachers and 1 cook.

Those who are going to benefit form this project are the children, especial the orphans, the teachers as some were unemployed before the project started, making it difficult for them to have a better life. getting a meal a day was a big challenge.
The project is growing each year, we have a plan to consider the widows from the community and employ them. We target a total of 100 children, 10 widows who will be the cooks and house mothers and 6 teachers to benefit from the project.

Our biggest challenges is getting fresh water, the water that we can access to is unfit for human consumption. Secondly buying food and paying the working staff is a big challenge.

When we get donations we will be able to buy food for the kids, pay our hard working teachers and bring piped water which is safe for human consumption.
