Children and adolescents with life-threatening illnesses are comprehensively cared for in the Children's Palliative Care Center at the Vestische Kinder- und Jugendklinik Datteln by a multi-professional team of pediatricians, nurses and psychosocial staff. The team alleviates the suffering symptoms of the young patients and creates quality of life for the entire family.
As the first children's palliative care unit in Germany, the Lichtblicke unit provides eight children's palliative care beds. Parents and siblings of the patients can be admitted free of charge. Curative care, art and music therapy, psychological support for the entire family, therapy sessions with the dogs Hugo and Lenny, occupational therapy - all psychosocial services are financed by donations and are not covered by health insurance! And also the so important increased staffing ratio in medicine and nursing is only made possible by donations.
Our children's palliative team is there for the young patients and their families 365 days a year. With 8 children's palliative beds, we need around 1,200 euros in donations per bed and week to be able to guarantee the best possible care.
