Christmas Fundraiser: Providing children access to sports in Tanzania

Dear family and friends,

As many of you know, we are part of the Sports Charity Mwanza, a non-for-profit project in the area of sport and development, for many years now. The goal of our charity is to establish a sustainable sports infrastructure within the four most popular sports of the country – football, basketball, volleyball and netball – so kids and young adults (girls and boys) have better access to play sport in a club.

Our fundraising idea: Due to the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we could not organise our yearly charity events in Europe. We are therefore facing the challenge of raising a budget of at least 50.000 Euros for 2021. To achieve this, we would all like to play our part by finding 24 friends and relatives that can donate €24 (or more if wished) to our project. Since all Europeans among us work entirely as volunteers (we also pay for all our travel expenses ourselves), you can be assured that your donations will go 100% into the project.

What we do with your donation: Together with the regional administration and the local sports associations we build infrastructure for grassroots and club sports in the region of Mwanza (3 mil inhabitants). Our work is based on three pillars:

1. The building and running of our sports and community centres create a sports infrastructure in the urban centre of the Mwanza Region that can be used by schools in the mornings and by sports clubs in the evenings.

2. Through the establishment of sports clubs with teams of different ages and mixed genders, we are creating an important social pillar in the society that promotes sports and a positive social atmosphere. Local teams usually have only 1-2 balls for their training and receive 5-10 balls from us when they form new youth teams, especially girls teams.

3. With creative ideas to support local resources and the creation of local jobs in our ball factory, we want to strengthen local competencies. With a youth unemployment rate of over 80%, every job opportunity brings great value.
