In the eastern part of Congo, there are currently 4.5 million people living as refugees in their own country! Forced to move out of the life-threatening dangers of civil war in their own hometowns, these families left everything behind and are now at great risk of poverty.
Our aim is to help them secure their future.
Our project is giving direct support specifically to the displaced people in Goma. We have already built two houses, a vocational school and a building for a cooperative, with a solar system for power supply and a water connection.
We have recently started to give vocational training in tailoring/dressmaking as well as IT basics. Additionally, we will give several tailors the opportunity to work together to expand their skills and to find a larger market to secure their income with which they can support their families.
Moreover, we also train people to become multipliers who have experience with microcredits/microfinance and applicable skills in saving. This means that many more people can be reached through awareness-raising measures.
The project started in December 2020 and the development will be accompanied over 3 years with the aim of a sustainable, independent, long-term continuation of this project.
Lucky for us, the organization BMZ is supporting us but we still need further support to provide as much as we can to the refugees in Goma.
