Heavy monsoon rains have led to flooding over large parts of Thailand. More than 370 people have been killed and around 2 million affected. Habitat for Humanity Thailand has distributed emergency shelter kits in two of the worst affected provinces, and provided emergency shelter at a relief center. Habitat for Humanity Thailand is responding as part of the 'Southeast Asia Floods Appeal'.

61 of Thailand's 76 provinces have been affected. Habitat for Humanity Thailand has distributed emergency shelter kits in two of the worst affected provinces - Phitsanulok and Sukhothai. 3000 Shelter Kits are still needed in the area.

In Phitsanulok province (about 370km from Bangkok), Habitat for Humanity Thailand has distributed 10 emergency shelter kits, to support 100 families, in Bang Rakam sub-district.

In Sukhothai province (about 420km from Bangkok), Habitat for Humanity Thailand has distributed 7 emergency shelter kits, to support 70 families, in Yang Sai sub-district.

On 12 October Habitat for Humanity Thailand provided 50 emergency shelters at the request of Bang Ban municipality, in Ayutthaya province, to help set up a relief center.

Assessments or re-assessments of Ayuttaya, Lopburi and Phitsanulok provinces will be conducted to determine additional disaster response activity.

Under the 'Southeast Asia Floods Appeal', Habitat for Humanity Thailand aims to support 10,000 families with temporary or transitional shelters, as well as clean-up and repair operations.

Total Number Beneficiaries: 10,000 families, with min. of 3000 Emergency Shelter Kits. With each disaster that occurs, Habitat tailors its response to meet the immediate needs and specific situations on the ground. Sometimes, as in Thailand, the first phase of that response takes the form of an emergency shelter kit.

The kits are full of tools and supplies that families can use to make basic home repairs and construct emergency shelter.
