Acquittals of boat drivers on Samos!

We are happy and hopeful that for the first time a court in Greece has acquitted two defendants who were on trial for steering a boat, due to the fact that they are refugees!

A year ago, on the Greek island of Samos, we protested against the criminalisation of a father who was charged with the death of his son after he drowned while fleeing. One year, many campaigns & trials later, we are celebrating acquittals of so-called boat drivers there!

The court finally accepted our demands and applied Article 2c of Law 4251/2014, which states that persons under international protection are exempt from criminalisation. This is an important and significant change in Greek jurisprudence!

This is only possible thanks to your help!

We must not stop at this critical and important point!

Please continue to support us so that with this positive court decision behind us, we can now assist other refugees who are on trial for smuggling charges and face long prison sentences!

We must continue now!
