About this project

Help us to cover the costs for the lawyer and an independent expert
opinion so that we can find out what happened to Matiullah? Matiullah J.
family has decided to take legal action against the termination of the
investigations against the shooter, we support them and you can help us.

What happened?
On April 13, 2018 Matiullah J. was shot by the police in Fulda in front
of the refugee camp where he lived. Five police officers were unable to
arrest a youth without killing him. Allegedly in self-defense, 12 shots
were fired from just one gun - four of which were hits. The Afghan
migrants in Fulda have been under massive pressure ever since because of
the attention that the death of Matiullah and their spontaneous protest
afterwards have generated. The attempts to intimidate them reached their
preliminary climax on Monday 30 April 2018 with a rally in Fulda by the
extreme-right party AFD and the Identitarian Movement.

Only one week after Matiullah's death, the policeman who shot him had
been back on duty. And this despite the fact that the investigation was
not yet completed. Thus, not surprising to us the public prosecutor's
office came to the result, that the investigations would be closed in
spring 2019. Meanwhile it became known that the right-wing extremist
police scandal in Hesse also affects the police headquarters in Fulda.

After the appearance of a mobile phone video, shot by a police
candidate, which showed that five instead of four police officers were
on site, the investigations were resumed. But also this time, they were
closed only half a year later.

We support the relatives in Afghanistan and demand an independent and
complete clarification of the case. That is why we were in Fulda on the
1st anniversary of Matiullah's death in 2019 and once again demanded
justice for him. We also demand that the city erects a monument to
Matiullah at the place of his death. Thereupon, besides the negative
press coverage, we were attacked by a wave of repression by the police
with a total of six charges against protestors and critics.

Also this year, we bring our demands to the public again. With an online
action on 13.4.2020 with the Hastag #WasGeschahMitMatiullah (What
happened to Matiullah) we renew the demand for an independent inquiry
and the need to call out institutional racism as a problem in Germany.
You can support us by posting photos with the hashtag on the anniversary
of Matiullah's death. More about this here:
