Child protection in The Gambia: Securing food supply for (orphan) children

The Sheikh Tihami Ibrahim Nyass Foundation runs a children's center (Darra) in The Gambia. It accommodates about 170 children, half of them girls. They are all (social-) orphans whose families are still among the poorest in the bitterly poor Gambia.  The children's center was founded by the midwife Fatou Gaye, who still runs it today. All children receive - and this is the exception among Gambia's Darras - religious as well as general education, proper housing, sufficient food, medical care, protection from any exploitation and care by nannies.

Every day, the children need a 50-kilo sack of rice as basic food. Fatou Gaye receives no government support for this. Her funds come from the profits of the foundation's clinic. And more than 70% from donations of time, money and goods. So we are asking for your support here.

Together, we make a big difference for the (orphan) children: some are only here for a short time; they return home, for example, when their widowed dad remarries. Others live here for a longer period of time, but spend vacations and vacations with the family. Still others are glad for every day they can spend sheltered in the Children's Center. Some are even seriously ill and would not survive elsewhere. They all have to eat :-)
