Project phase in Cameroon successfully completed!
We have successfully completed our project phase in Cameroon and would like to give you some insights about what we have achieved in the last few days.
In the second half of our project phase, the focus was on publicizing our project in the region. We met several governmental authorities, educational institutions and students from the University of Dschang to report about our project and to inspire new enthusiastic students as new team members. We have received a lot of support and are convinced that our project will receive a lot of successful in the region and that many people in Dschang will participate in the implementation.
We are very proud that we were able to inspire an expert in ecological agriculture from Dschang with our project and from now on he will be part of our team. In return for a monthly salary, he ensures that the planting of the field meets the highest ecological quality standards.
We have also made a lot of progress in technical implementation. The water tower and the well are completed and connected by an underground pipe. The only things missing now are the pump and the solar panels, so that the water from the well can be pumped without any emissions directly into the water tower.
For our irrigation system we were able to build a first test system with drip irrigation. Such a system is very expensive and before we decide to equip the whole field with this type of irrigation we have started a test run in a small area of the field. After consultation with the internal displaced people, who manage the field during our absence, we will then decide in the next phase of the project whether we will extend this system to the entire field.
A complete irrigation system is not necessary at this stage of the project, as the rainy season is about to start and will last for the next eight months. It is only from November that the people of Dschang are dependent on the completion of our system. Until then, we will be very busy to collect further donations, evaluate our previous system and work on the implementation of our solar-powered pumping system.
Saying goodbye in Dschang was very hard for all of us. During the two weeks in Cameroon we have not only become great team members but also good friends. Many of us became so fond of the project that we will continue to work on the tasks in the coming semesters.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to all our supporters and donors. Without your support, this project would have been impossible. You are giving new perspectives to internal displaced people in the region and guiding the region towards an ecological and sustainable future. Thank you very much for that!
However, further donations are needed to successfully complete the project, which is why we continue to call on our project to support it in any possible way. Tell your friends about it, post our website on social media or simply donate an amount of your choice on our fundraising page. We look forward to any further support and will continue to report on our project progress in the coming months.
