House of Hope Kickoff delayed

Dear supporters,
You may have been wondering why there’s still no construction fence at the House of Hope site in Haydom – even though many of you donated months ago.
Your question is absolutely justified – and today, we want to give you an open and honest update.
What we’ve already achieved – thanks to your help:
• ✅ We secured a beautifully located plot of land near Haydom Hospital.
• ✅ Together with local professionals and an international architect from Norway, we developed an inclusive and sustainable construction plan.
• ✅ We completed all necessary official steps, held meetings with local authorities, and prepared the building permit process.
• ✅ We publicly tendered the project in accordance with Tanzanian law, so that construction companies could apply through a competitive process.
• ✅ We then entered price negotiations with the final construction company – and unfortunately, due to the scale of the project, the final cost far exceeded our initial budget.
We aim to create a rehabilitation center that truly meets the needs of the children and their families.
These first steps were more time-consuming – and far more costly – than expected. Many of the expenses (e.g., legal fees, land surveying, permits, plans, materials, transport) are not visible, but they were absolutely necessary before we can lay the first stone.
What we still need:
Due to inflation, material shortages, and rising wages in Tanzania, the total construction costs have increased significantly.
We have renegotiated, recalculated, reduced, postponed – and yet, we still realistically need around €60,000 to finally begin and complete the first major construction phase: the foundation and shell of the buildings.
What we promise you:
• We will keep going – with full heart and hope that we can make this dream a reality.
• Every euro goes directly into the project. No administrative fees. No detours.
• We’ll keep you updated regularly – with photos, voices from the field, and visible progress.
🙏 Thank you for carrying us this far. Please stay with us. Share this campaign, talk about it, donate again if you can – and help us make hope visible.
With all our hearts,
Your Haydom-Friends e.V. team and
Dr Theresa Harbauer
