Clave de Sur is oldest from seven music school projects of the Hamburg organisation „musicians without borders“. In the harbour quarter Guasmo Sur of the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, it is his aim, to allow people from poorer conditions the access to the music. Every year German volunteers travel there to support the project by honourary music lessons. Beside the motivation in the music particularly the sense of community is coined in the circle of friends of the music school very much. Daily one meets to the music make. German volunteers are seen, on this occasion, not only as a music teachers, but also as narrow friends.
Till this day "Clave de Sur" has created a new perspective for many youngsters of the Guasmo Sur. Today an exceptionally high number in music school members follows an occupation or study.
During the last years the gang criminal activity has clearly decreased and the life has become substantially surer – possibly also by the influence of the music school.
The initiator of the project, Magdalena Abrams, had just concluded her "Abitur" in 2005 when she came to Guayaquil. In the Guasmo Sur she showed to found the youngsters the first grounding on different instruments without intentions for a long-term project. After she returned year after year and could inspire more and more friends to accompany them, the organisation „musicians without borders“ and the music school "Clave de Sur" was brought to life, finally.
The project today is escorted by two Ecuadorians who themselves live in the Guasmo Sur. Without this organisation team a successful work with public concerts, integration travelling and a lot would be hardly more conceivable. Although the co-ordinators pursue other activities (job or similar), they are enthusiastic about the time-consuming structuralisation of the music school.
Beside the instrumental lessons there are various ensembles. The volunteers pursue and support the most different ideas of the music schoolboys. At the moment thus there is a funk and a rock band which both pass only of Ecuadorians, a choir, a violin group and a blower's group. Moreover, German lesson is offered.
To allow furthermore free music lessons, we need support, all the same of which form. We are glad about financial support for the co-ordinators, instruments and accessories, spare parts and repair.
We also welcome the interest in a volunteer's application in Guayaquil or an instrument donation – moreover there are closer information on the web side musikerohnegrenzen.de.
