About this project
The Root Foundation's vision is to create a world where all vulnerable children fulfill their potentials and grow up to become valuable members of the community. Founded in 2012 in Batsinda, one of the poorest areas of Kigali, the Root Foundation provides a safe and secure space for
WHAT?
Due to the reassignment of the right to use our center in Kigali, we are unfortunately forced to find a new location for the Root Foundation. The first shock was immediately followed by enthusiasm, as this situation represents a great opportunity for the Root Foundation. We have the possibility to build a "new" Root Foundation, adapted to our individual needs, and to offer the children an even better place for their personal development.
HOW?
We are planning to build our own facilities with specially designed multi-purpose rooms in the part of Kigali which is our home: Batsinda. To make this possible, we collect donations in three phases:
Phase 1:
Purchase of land (approx. 75m x 75m) and construct a border wall or fence.
Need: 40 000 €
Phase two:
Construction of a main building (approx. 35m x 25m) and a toilet block.
Need: 30 000 €
Phase three:
Creation of a covered outdoor area and a vegetable garden.
Need: 30 000 €.
Our aim is to use locally sourced, sustainable materials for the construction and to involve the people of Batsinda, where the Root Foundation is rooted, as much as possible in the construction work. The installation of solar cells and the use of rainwater helps to minimize future costs. The construction of a vegetable garden helps us to bring nutrition closer to the children and provides us with fresh, home-grown food.
