    About this project

Isabel B. from Western Cape Primary Science Programme (PSP) is responsible for this project
Our 2-year Cluster Project works with and provides resources to small clusters of schools in townships and rural areas of the Western Cape. We offer in-depth and on-site classroom support and work closely with teachers, principals and learners. Currently, we work with 14 primary schools, reaching more than 240 teachers and through those, more than 24,000 children between the ages of 7 and 13 years. BACKGROUND & NEEDS: All schools we work with are severely under-resourced and teachers lack materials as well as training and support to provide adequate primary school education to their learners. ACTIVITIES: Our highly skilled subject specialists and experienced teachers on the PSP staff visit the schools at least 1-2 times per term, run teacher workshops, provide and develop teaching resources, offer hands-on classroom support and mentor as well as train teachers of different subjects and grades. IMPACT: Since its inception in 2002, the Cluster Project has worked with 170 schools in five Districts and has developed into a well-rounded support programme, directly addressing the needs of individual teachers and schools.
