In August 2019 the time has finally come: I fly to Peru with the organization "Welthaus Bielefeld eV" for one year to assist in a primary school, teaching English and German, helping in a school choir, looking after a school garden, with even more creative space to start new afternoon projects. These are just a few of the tasks that await me in Villa el Salvador, Lima. Of course, apart from my "tasks", there is much more to my voluntary service: it is about mutual learning, intercultural exchange and especially collecting new experiences. And that's why I decided to start this volunteer service, not only to improve my Spanish, but also to make new friends, get to know cultures, and also to find out if working as a teacher might actually be something for my future.
My project is part of the voluntary service “weltwärts”, which is funded by the "BMZ", the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The BMZ covers about 75% of the cost of my voluntary service, including flight and food allowance, accommodation, insurance, seminars, etc. However, at a € 10 000 total cost this leaves 2 500 €, which the organization Welthaus has to pay itself. Iit is desired that the volunteer (ie me) should raise funds covering these costs. Thus, my organization and I depend on your donation. With your donation for my fundraising campaign you help me to make my international engagement possible, because otherwise it would not be possible for me and my family to pay for the entire 2 500 Euro expenses, so that the rest of Welthaus Bielefeld e.V. would have to compensate for the missing expenses.
