About this project

tanzbar_bremen is a mixed team of dancers, choreographers and cultural workers with different skills. The focus of the work is to strengthen contemporary dance through inclusion.
Inclusive contemporary dance still represents something special. tanzbar_bremen is proud to be rooted in this niche. As an established and well-known company, we receive national attention and are experts in this field.

tanzbar_bremen's mission is to make art and culture accessible to as many people as possible. For more than 15 years we have been realizing projects involving professionals with and without disabilities, creating an atmosphere of equality. Thereby we are regionally and internationally active. As the first dance company in Germany, tanzbar_bremen has created jobs for an inclusive team.

With its professional artistic work, tanzbar_bremen creates platforms for contemporary dance to reach and fascinate a diverse audience. In the collaboration of artists with different skills, own dance languages are developed and new artistic qualities with innovative approaches for the dance are revealed. By designing and implementing model projects that take these aspects into account, tanzbar_bremen creates jobs for people with and without disabilities in the cultural field.
We create serious and humorous dance productions for the stage or public space, which we perform regionally and internationally. In Bremen we regularly offer dance trainings, workshops and educational programs. In addition, we organize the inclusive dance festival eigenArtig biannually, where dancers with and without disabilities from all over the world perform on the stages of Bremen.

For many years, tanzbar_bremen has been busy finding its own wheelchair-accessible spaces for its artistic work. Thanks to the funding from Tanzpakt - Reconnect, a unique opportunity has arisen to offer inclusive dance art in Bremen a sustainable environment. On a centrally located area of 1200 sqm, three rehearsal rooms and accessible action areas will be adapted. This offers multiple fields of activity which open up new perspectives for the company and also support Bremen's dance scene in the long term. Our intention is to keep these spaces for the work of the company even after the end of the project and to energize them together with the scene. The project will be promoted with additional organizational staff as well as a nationwide symposium on the topic of "inclusive dance spaces".

Working in an inclusive team requires additional working hours and individual mediation services.
With your donation you will help us to continue our work. You can donate for the renovation and rental of our new barrier-free rehearsal rooms, for the fees and staff costs of our permanently employed dancers with disabilities, or you can support us in publicizing our events with flyers, press work and posters.
