About this project

With his background in agro-ecological landscape restoration and development cooperation Martin Korndoerfer, found of Hakuna Matata Germany e.V., joined the project and broadened the horizons of the project to include the ecological dimension. Steve Ralf from England, himself a socially responsible entrepreneur, finally brought entrepreneurial competence into our project. The school is embedded in a piece of land enriched by permaculture methods, providing food for the local children and staff.
At the same time, the garden is developing into a flagship project that combines agriculture and ecological wasteland recultivation. Workshops will be held to disseminate these ideas and techniques in the community and to consolidate their use. The children should also be taught these methods so that they themselves can prevent the spread of the deserts and provide for themselves.
So far, a school and an orphanage have been built on the project site, and several local projects have been carried out or are ongoing (e.g., Big Sky Cinema). To make the project financially independent further investments are planned. These include a solar system for electricity, a vegetable dryer to produce moringa powder for a more balanced nutrition of the children and a biogas plant that produces the gas for the gas stove. In addition, the existing sanitary facilities are to be upgraded for which, among other things, a hot water system has to be installed. A drip irrigation system is needed for the water-saving cultivation of our crops.
Furthermore, money is needed to continue to equip the school and to allow the children a child-friendly time on the premises.
For the implementation of all these steps, we need extra money. Hakuna Matata Deutschland e.V. collects donations to gradually meet the various needs of the project and to live up to our principle - helping until we are no longer needed.
