Dat workshop II – a film workshop for young immigrants and young local people

Dat workshop II  is a series of eight filmmaking workshops that offer the chance for young people to learn how to write and develop their own stories for the screen. The workshop additionally gives the participants the opportunity to learn all of the different trades involved in filmmaking from camera operation to editing. A thematic focus on Black History in Italy and Communities of African Descent in the city of Florence provides a framework for the development of new narrative writing and one of the ideas created through the workshop will be made into a short film and presented at the end of the program.
The aim of the workshops created by the filmmaker Fide Dayo is to foster local talent, encourage aspiring filmmakers while highlighting Black History in Florence and stories that have yet to be told.

DAT workshop I took place on four Saturdays in February 2017 with young people coming from different nations , most of them asylum seekers from African countries. One meeting was more joyful than the other, at the end they produced a very short film sketch about love and integration “AVVENTURA”,  https://vimeo.com/207636883 screened on 28 February at Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA), Florence.

Now we / they / you want to continue with Dat workshop II: Eight more workshop meetings in May and June, open to former and new participants.
The workshops are designed for ages 14+, immigrants and adults of all ages are welcome. No experience or prior knowledge of filmmaking is necessary – but those with experience are more than welcome and will also benefit from the workshop.
Dat Workshop II will give voice to the experience of migration and open perspectives of professionalization.
