With the tribunal, we want to create a space for those affected by racism to raise their voices and be heard. The tribunal brings people together in their commitment to an open society. With the 4,000 participants of the tribunal, we will mourn the victims of the Nazi terror and finally grant them visibility. We will call upon the different actors involved in the so-called NSU complex and bring forward accusations against them. And we will lament the dream of a good life for all members of society. To this end, during the the 17th to the 21st May 2017, the „Schauspiel Köln“ (theatre of Cologne) will be transformed into a space for exchange, panels, lectures, performances, exhibitions, research, workshops, and gathering. We can create a society of the many.
The migrants affected by NSU terror knew early on that Nazi violence and racism was the motivation for the horrific attacks on their family members, their friends, their neighbors, and their own lives, the attacks against their entire existence and businesses. Despite massive coverage and discussion of the NSU within the German society and media, the victims’ knowledge has not been heard up to this day. Structural racism within Germany lead to the invisibility as well as official investigations against the victims, their families, and communities. Coming together with the publicly formed and funded Neo-Nazi structures which the German state justifies and protects as existing due to reasons of surveillance and confinement, these practices form the NSU complex. The NSU terrorists profited from the racist and racial division of society which the tribunal will aim at and works towards overcoming. We want to make sure that those affected by NSU violence and racism cannot be silenced.
This is currently so important with the radical right party AfD on the rise(Alternative für Deutschland), regular Pegida demonstrations, and attacks against refugees occurring almost daily. Racists, fascists, and those of a backwards orientation mobilize against social progress and cosmopolitan life styles that have long been part of everyday life in Germany. During the tribunal, we will accuse in the interest of another reality, that is a society based on solidarity that labors to change racist structures and has been doing this for decades. We will show that racism does not have the power to separate us. Rather racism unites us in our opposition against it and our fight for better living, which has already come into existence within countless spaces of everyday life. The tribunal wants to bring together all people who are already advocating and fighting for this good life.
The tribunal’s message is clear: migrant life will never be cast out, immigration will never be undone! Rather, a good life can only come into existence through migration creating an open, diverse society of the many.
Please, donate to help us put on the tribunal!
And attend from 17 to 21 May 2017 in Cologne.
