Intro

Thank you so much for supporting our project! 650 students have already received a powerful solar light!
That means that 3250 people (5 people on average per household) are now studying, cooking or reading with clean and sustainable light!

Our local partner on the ground and the Rheinland Pfalz jumelage e.V. have supported our efforts.

SaferRwanda is a Registered Non for Profit Organization experienced in rural and urban energy product distribution. It is experienced in rural and urban energy products. Since the beginning of 2017, SaferRwanda in partnership with Little sun and Rheinland Pfalz to distribute solar lamps to both students and teachers with the main aim of improving primary pupils’ academic performance, the general welfare of the of the teachers and to provide environmental friendly lamps.

Distribution

So far, 650 solar lamps and 4 solar chargers have been distributed to pupils and teachers respectively. The pupils and teachers will be trained on how to operate the lamp on return to school after the holidays. 
The main objectives of the project were: 

- Provide solar lamp as a learning tool to improve primary pupils’ performance in school to ensure continuity in revision even after school hours.- Improve the social and economic welfare of primary school teachers by providing solar chargers.- Protect the environment by providing a clean alternative source of lighting in place of kerosene lamps among households hence reduce indoor air pollution

Impacts

-Easy lighting that is friendly to environment since it is pollution free.
-Increased study hours for the pupils in primary schools.
-Improved academic performance of school going children/students resulting from available solar lamps for revision and homework at night due to the solar lights provided.
-Teachers will always be on air and able to keep in touch with the rest of the staff at school anytime, anywhere without worrying about a power blackout. -The teachers will be able to save time that would otherwise be spent on making trips to the neighboring villages to charge phones and hence use that time for other constructive work.
-Conservation of the environment emanating from reduced using of firewood lighting.
-Increased number of working hours for teachers as a result of the lamps provided lights.
-Decreased workload for women and children who initially collected firewood for lighting their homes.
-Reduced air pollution from burning wood and kerosene.
-Reduced respiratory and eye diseases as a result of reduced smoke from use of firewood and kerosene for lighting.
-Improved communication since beneficiary households were provided with a phone and radio charging system as part of the solar units
