We are Pamoja Africa e.V, a non profit organization founded in 2014 supporting the orphanage Maua Villa in developing its own infrastructure in order to provide a dignified life and a future perspective for disadvantaged children in a rural Kenyan area called Kivingoni. Our long term goal is to enable the project to develop and finance itself independently without external support.

Since the first sod was turned in 2014 we have already achieved a lot! In addition to two residential houses for our ten children there now is also a kitchen and a dining room, as well as cows, goats and chicken which delivering fresh milk and eggs. As a consequence the life situation has been improved significantly during the past two years (here some insights). However, facing the hot, merciless climate there, access to clean drinking water is an essential step further in becoming a sustainable project. Why?

Currently there is neither electricity nor running water available for the orphanage Maua Villa. Drinking water is bought from the nearest borehole and processed water is taken from a tarn. As quality control for water is unavailable, the children are exposed to diseases like typhus on a daily base. In order to become a sustainable and self-financed project we have to engage in farming which strongly depends on our own water supply in this dry area. With own water we would not only eliminate costs for drinking water but also generate an income source increasing the project’s independence. Additionally, we could provide clean drinking water for a fair price to the surrounding community.
