Hello and welcome to my betterplace page! My name is Stina, I am 18 years old and come from Hamburg, Germany. After I graduated it was my dream to make new experiences overseas while getting an insight into the work of a foreign NGO at the same time. A german organisation called Deutsch Indische Zusammenarbeit fulfilled my dream by giving me the chance to participate in a so called weltwärts (http://www.weltwaerts.de/en/ ) voluntary service. From the 1st of octobre 2016 I am going to assist the Indian Institute of Youth Welfare (http://www.iiyw.org/ ) in Nagpur with their development programs for disadvantaged people such as women, children or families living in slums. All their projects are supposed to help people to help themselves in order to ensure a long term improvement.
Of course my voluntary service in India is linked to a number of expenses for flights, accommodation and hindi classes etc. 75% of these costs will be covered by the german Federal Ministry for Economical Cooperation and Developement, which has already sent more then 26.000 volunteers all over the world since 2008 as part of the „weltwärts“ program. The missing 25% will be covered by my sending organisation. In order to give future generations the chance to engage in voluntary work abroad it is important to financially support the sending organisation. I think that values such as intercultural exchange and understanding are a crucial part of creating a better and peaceful world. Therefore I think that programs like „weltwärts“ are very important and should be continued for many years to come. I am thankful for any donation, no matter how small!
P.s.: Check this page every now and then for updates about my work in Nagpur!
