    About this project

    K. Clark from Education for Independent Living is responsible for this project
Will you help us send these four children to public school for the 2016 / 2017 school year by donating towards the needs listed?

There are 7 members of the Sanyang family - six children and their mother. They live in the poverty-stricken area of Brikama, Gambia, West Africa. Two children are young adults who have graduated high school (secondary school) and cannot find work. The remaining four children are not attending school due to the lack of funds for uniforms, school supplies, and books.

Since the loss of their father over 8 years ago, this family has not been able to support themselves. E4IL has been helping support this family by providing money for food since November of 2014. This is a temporary solution - without education they have little hope of becoming self-sustaining. With your help, we can provide them with education to give them a chance for a better future.

Help us to help them help themselves. Instead of band-aids, let's solve the problem!

Kineh - Age 6 (1st grade, Lower Basic School - has not attended school yet)
Yaya - Age 8 (3rd grade, Lower Basic School)
Isatou - Age 14 (9th grade, Upper Basic School)
Muhammed - Age 20 (11th grade, Senior Secondary School)

In the last few years school grants have made it possible for students to attend public school without compulsory tuition fees - which we are very happy about!...however there are still items students are required to provide to attend school.

This project began a year and a half ago when team member Keith and Lamin (the oldest child in the Sanyang family) started communicating daily and became close friends - as close as family. This project is part of a three year plan for the family to move from poverty and dependence to self-sustaining. Please see our other education projects for the two young adults of this family.

There are ZERO administrative costs or fees associated with this project - every dalasi/dollar/euro goes directly to the family for this specific purpose.

Keith already provides funds directly to the family bi-weekly for food, a cell phone, and electricity to charge one phone (used primarily for communication) and two light bulbs (limited use).

This is a Non-Profit effort, a Labor of Love. E4IL is NOT a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our friends at GambiaRising have offered to assist by receiving tax deductible contributions on our behalf at no cost to this organization or effort.

We thank you for being aware of the conditions of those living in poverty in our world, and sincerely thank you for your support as we work together to help each other - one family, one child at a time.
