A democracy without the active participation of its citizens can barely be called democracy. But one has to learn how to develop consistent ideas and own the responsibility for them. For that we give small project grants to young adults around the Balkan region and accompany them from their ideas until the implementation and reflection.

The essence of our encouragement is "learning by doing". For that, an advancement in terms of trust and financial resources is needed to build on. Participants get these in a non-bureaucratic way, that explicitly invites persons whithout any project management experience to get involved.
Each year, 30 participants run through this process within the programme "Balkans, let's get up!" They build up local, sometimes bi- and trinational teams and set examples of volunteer commitment beyond institutional frameworks. Our only condition is to keep going and to learn from it.
Our motto for 2016 is: "How do we want to live together?" The precise project topics can be freely decided by the participants.
Their projects are embedded into a qualification programme (June-December 2016):
> a kick-off seminar for the encounter young adults in the Balkan region and the debate on current issues relevant for the region
> a training on project management for volunteer projects
> a reflection seminar
The responsible team lives in Serbia and Germany and stems (in majority) from the region. The projects are spread all over the region.
