    I. Introduction.
ADDIS FRE is a public school located in Addis Ababa (Lideta, Woreda 4, near Amstegna Police Station) hosting presently 200 primary school students. The biggest challenge is the absence of running water and the deplorable state of the latrines at the school.
With your help, we can rehabilitate Addis Fre School to create a healthy learning environment and give comfortable and safe setting for the students.

    II. The problems.
    • No point of delivery for drinking or sanitary water in the school.
    • Toilets in disastrous conditions and unfit for use by children.
    • Corrugated sheets covering the toilets are rusty and letting the rain in.
    • Absence of playing ground and sports area properly fitted.
    • Fifty students identified in need of nutritional support and school supplies.

    III. Our objectives
    • Create a decent environment favorable to elementary school children.
    • Promote excellence with the participation of teachers, parents and the community
living in the vicinity of the school.

IV. The activities in two phases:
A team of former students of Lycée Guebre Mariam (ALGM) who are also members of Rotary Club Addis Abeba Entoto (RCAAE) approached by the School Administrators, visited the school on 17 March 2016. They reported the situation to the Assembly of RCAAE who immediately decided to undertake the following actions in two phases:

    Phase 1: Measures of emergency:
    • Provide to the school children drinking water.
    • Repair and upgrade at least one toilet for the children and for the adults.
A quick fundraising was initiated among those attending the Assembly for the emergency works and 56 0000 Birr equivalent to US$2,600 has been raised. The works started immediately and are near completion by mid May 2016.

    Phase 2: The rehabilitation works:
The rehabilitation of the school aims at providing a decent school environment at the beginning of the next school year i.e. in September 2016.
Here are the details of funds required for this phase:
    • Repair, clean and upgrade existing toilets, 20 500 Birr
    • Upgrade existing water pipes, 15 000 Birr
    • Install adequate water tank to supply drinking water, 20 000 Birr
