About this project

E. Hanisch from Verein für Afghanistan-Förderung e.V. (VAF) is responsible for this project
"Paiwand-e-Noor" is an institution for housing and education of disadvantaged children and young people with physical disabilities in Kabul/Afghanistan. The project aims to provide a home for these children, to strengthen their self-confidence and allow them through a solid education a self-determined life, where they can contribute to the sustainable development of their country.

The aim is to assist these children and young people whose integration in society are difficult. We provide them with a family environment and support them with school education and vocational training. In case of full or half orphans our institution replaces or supplements the educational work so that the children and young people receive an equalization for their suffered losses within the family. We offer them guidance and specific life skills assistance for a a self-determined independent life.

Among the inhabitants of Paiwand-e-Noor are many physically disabled children and young people. The majority of the children and young people are missing limbs, because they touched as little children a so-called butterfly bomb (disguised as a toy, doll or pen), stepped onto a mine or were injured by a grenade. These children and young people are not only physically impaired but also mentally traumatized. They were born during the war, in a country that exists in a state of war for 38 years. They experience daily horrors of war. As a result of which all the inhabitants of Paiwand-e-Noor are traumatized in varying dimensions and degrees. The VAF is planning an accompanying project, to treat the most severely traumatized children with psychotherapeutic measures.

We concretely are committed to ensure, that the children and young people in Paiwand-e-Noor:
• regularly attend the public schools
• achieve a recognized graduation
• receive a quality education and vocational training
• find a prospective occupation and lasting employment
• receive special assistance for the physically challenged
• receive active supervision of the educational progress beyond the demands at school

The target group of this project is girls and boys, age 6 to 18.

The project gives these children and young people the opportunity to develop their personality in order to confidently assert in the Afghan society. Understanding, tolerance, friendship and gender equality are the pillars of education in Paiwand-e-Noor.

Help us to give these children, often orphans, a hope for a future. Without Paiwand-e-Noor they would end up on the street, begging the only way to survive.
