SUSTAINABLE VILLAGE NEPAL - THE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR THE NEPALESE VILLAGES
EARTHQUAKE, MONSOON AND POLITICAL CRISIS
On 04/25/2015 a devastating EARTHQUAKE shook the small Himalayan country Nepal. The devastating earthquake has severely shattered the country and its people. Over a year later million people still live in temporary dwellings.
Last year manager without borders and the local NGO VOL NEPAL developed together the concept for the SUSTAINABLE VILLAGE NEPAL. The POLITICAL CRISIS with border blockades by India shows that such a project is necessary so that the villagers of Nepal don't become the plaything of multinational corporations and their big brother India.
THE FOUR PILLARS OF SUSTAINABILITY
The project goes far beyond the concept of emergency aid. Rather, the life of the villagers is improved sustainable and on a long-term basis, so that future generations can live with a real FUTURE PROSPECTS in Nepal's villages.
The earthquake has destroyed many houses. Traditional building materials such as bricks are very expensive in Nepal. Together with the University of Hohenheim, we want to develop an EARTHQUAKE-PROOF BUILDING CONCEPT that uses locally available materials. After a geological survey to locate safe construction sites, the villagers have the possibility to implement the construction concept by building a model house.
The wonderful nature is one of Nepals greatest treasures. Unfortunately, many people don't realize the consequences of plastic in their environment. The villagers develop a sustainable WASTE CONCEPT for their village.
A few years ago international aid organizations gave hybrid rice seeds to the people in the villages. The farmers can't gain seeds from HYBRID RICE. Hereinafter they become dependent on multinational seed companies. With the support of local experts we will establish an ecological and sustainable agriculture. In addition, ways will be developed together with the farmers so that they can increase their profitability by growing high-value products, marketing and appropriate distribution structures.
In the area of livelihood a business hub and ALTERNATIVE BUSINESS MODELS (for example, laundry) shall particularly strengthen the role of women. So far, the existing potentials are not fully exploited in this field.
