    About this project

Jerome B. from KNUST UP/JSS Alumni is responsible for this project
    Beloved Alumni,

it's with great excitement that we launch this year's fundraising campaign for two programs: Our traditional Bright And Needy Scholarship Program and the new Ingenuity Project. We want to double down on progress by continuing to provide scholarships to bright needy kids, as well as, furnishing ICT labs where one student has access to one computer (It's called a personal computer for a reason, right?).

Given the palpably positive impacts of our Bright And Needy Scholarship Program last year, we will continue to honor our promise to the school and award 10 needy students full scholarships for the 2016/17 academic year. These scholarships are providing soothing financial peace to the beneficiary students and hence allowing them to focus fully on their academics. The burden of studentship is onerous enough to pile on the woes of financial hardships. You will find it fulfilling to hear that a bright and needy scholarship recipient for the 2015/16 academic year was rated to be the smartest JSS 3 student during last term performance evaluation. This is impact, folks!

This year, we want to also tackle a problem with much more profound consequences, which is the abysmal computer to student ratio. Can you believe that there are only 18 working computers for all the approximately 1400 students in KNUST JHS? I mean can we ever grapple with the concept of 100 students per computer? This is unacceptable folks, especially in an age when a computer is becoming an inevitable tool of life. The ingenuity project therefore seeks to produce JHS graduates who are fluent with computers by increasing accessibility to computers. This indeed is a lofty goal; however, we intend walk our way to the end of this beautiful journey in incremental steps, one after another. With such an attitude, we should be confident that, when we look back in a couple of years, we will all be amazed by how far we will have come.

In this spirit, we ask that we all join in this noble cause for our alma mater. Giving back to society is and should never be the responsibility of some few. If we all contribute in our own little and affordable ways, we will easily meet our fundraising target and be able to affect our school in phenomenal ways. The great thing about our fundraising is that it's 100% transparent, and hence all of us can account for every penny raised and spent on these laudable causes. No amount is too small; every cedi, dollar, or pound goes a long way in changing the academic lives of our younger brothers and sisters.

    Sincerely,
    The Alumni Steering Committee
