    About this project

    A. Bathel from ReDI School of Digital Integration gGmbH is responsible for this project
    IN A NUTSHELL

ReDI School of Digital Integration is a non-profit coding school for tech-savvy people with refugee status based in Berlin. We provide talented individuals with free, high-quality training and the chance to join the startup and digital industry as software developers and testers.

ReDI offers free, basic and accelerated weekend courses of three to six months, depending on the students’ personal skill level, and provides a combination of training in computer programming skills (including HTML, CSS, Ruby on Rails and Javascript) and networking opportunities. We also equip our students with laptops, workstations in co-working spaces and mobile internet access to work in project groups during the week and to meet with dedicated technical mentors in between classes.

    THE COURSE IN DETAIL

ReDI offers an integrated and accelerated approach to provide refugees with real world IT skills.

Before the courses, our students receive study material to gain a basic understanding of the course essentials and prepare themselves accordingly. They are also asked to think of projects or ideas they would like to realize with their new skills by the end of the course.

The first batch will consist of five basic and two accelerated classes with a 7:1 student:teacher ratio (49 students in total). In the first lesson the students receive their laptops and are additionally asked to form project groups of three to four within their class. Over the next three

to six month, depending on the chosen course, technical teaching sessions are held on the Sundays at the German Tech Entrepreneurship Center (GTEC), while each project group will have a table in a co-working space in Berlin to work and be supported by two dedicated technical coaches to help with homework during the week.

The program ends with a demo day at which our students will show their new skills, the projects they have been working on and the progress of the past three month to a room full of potential employers. The students of our basic course will have the opportunity to join our accelerated courses.

Additionally, since November 2015, we offer bi-weekly Tech Talks where our applicants can meet industry leader and learn about the challenges and opportunities of the digital scene. The Tech Talks are open to the public and organized in cooperation with Bitkom, the German IT industry association.
