"If you educate a girl, you educate a whole nation"
TuaRes believes that girl education is not only a fundamental human right, but also the most crucial vehicle to fulfill other development objectives. It changes the lives of vulnerable girls, empowers them and gives them a chance to take responsibility for their own future.
Our current focus is on Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa and one of the poorest in the world.
Burkina Faso has approximately 17 million inhabitants and a per capita GDP of $761. It is ranked 181st out of 187 countries according to the United Nations Development Program’s human development indicators.
As in many African countries, the access to education continues to be a key challenge in Burkina Faso. Neither girls nor boys fare well with regards to youth education, but girls are doing worse.
We are convinced that educating girls is the most effective strategy to ensure the well being of families and the long-term success of developing countries.
TuaRes strives to unleash this potential by facilitating access and quality in schools and by adopting targeted measures that increase the graduation rate of the most vulnerable ones. It is our goal to provide girls coming from low-income families, orphans and victims of abuse with adequate means to be able to graduate from school with good marks.
Through our base programs we provide girls with the necessary tools to be able to attend school. These include material such as food aid (school cafeteria and regular distributions to the girls’ families), school kits and hygienic kits, as well as and psychological support. TuaRes girls are supported by our psychosocial workers on a daily basis. They also receive targeted tuition classes in order to improve in those subjects in which they continue to struggle.
Recently we have expanded our base programs. We now also train our participants in practical skills that are not being taught at school, such as self-defense, first aid, etc. We also provide the girls with annual health checks and medicine.
Since the establishment of our foundation in 2012 we have already supported more than 16,000 girls and young women!
With EUR 300 per year, you can support a girl’s education and help to provide for her family.
BECOME A PART OF IT! Help young girls in Burkina Faso to have better control over their own lives and to become self-sufficient, independent women!
