Junge Nigerianer/innen wollen ihr Leben selbst bestimmen, ihre Zukunft gestalten, ihr Land verändern. Die gesellschaftlichen Umstände sind jedoch schwierig: Fehlende Jobs und Perspektiven, Korruption und Gewalt, Rechtlosigkeit und Armut prägen ihren Alltag und führen zu Frustration. Das Gowon Estate Sports and Community Programme arbeitet daran, mit Sport für sozialen Wandel zu sorgen. Ziel ist es, für die gesamte Nachbarschaft eine frei zugängliche Sport- und Freizeitanlage mit sozialem Charakter zu schaffen.

The Gowon Estate Sports and Community Programme is
a social and ecological sports project in Lagos, Nigeria.
The central objectives
> to provide space for young people and the community to exercise sport
> to offer focused programmes in order to tackle the existing social problems
> to include the community and young people in planning, decision-making and implementation
Active participation and ownership are basic principles of the project. Discussions and decisions are made by and for the community.
The proactive approach forms part of the overall philosophy. Core values like respect, solidarity and mutual learning
form part and at the same time are derived from of sporting activities. With sport as the common denominator, in the long-run
the GEf project will contribute to social development by providing space and opportunities for physical activity, learning
and community engagement.
