December 2021
Upon urgent request, Habibi.Works receives a special emergency budget from the organization "ChooseLove" to distribute hygiene items such as diapers, sanitary towels, soap, shampoo and toothpaste to the residents of the camp. At the beginning of December, the Greek state had still not arranged for the monthly aid to be paid out. No one publicly asks where the money that the European Commission has made available for the people goes.
The Habibi.Works team is working on another task outside of the usual work areas in addition to the complex distributions and the winter campaign: the creation of the " Tea Truck ". The organization "Lifting Hands International" gave us an old, discarded van, which we are lovingly converting into a tea station. The people of Camp Katsikas enthusiastically work shifts to offer tea, coffee, cocoa and tangerines to all who come onto the site.

Some of the developments in Habibi.Works in 2021 in graphs. Below you will find what we hope are some meaningful graphs of the Habibi.Works year 2021, from a comparison of the amount of donations to the percentage of refugees helping out in our team.

New Projects and Additions in January 2022
The latest addition to Habibi.Works' concept is the Sound Studio that was set up in our dome just last month. The team installed the little studio following requests of countless people living in the camp of Katsikas.
Music - like sports, like creating and making - is a way for people to express themselves and engage with others without a spoken language. It therefore is an amazing means to communicate in the context we work in.
One of the main aims of Habibi.Works is to create platforms on which the participants are the decision-makers, retaking agency and implementing their own ideas. Requests or suggestions from the participants are therefore treated with priority. We believe that people are the experts of their own lives. They know best what is missing in their daily lives and how to fix things.
Habibi.Works is meant as a space that belongs to anybody who uses it. Some people might look for tools and materials to implement practical solutions, others might be enjoying a cup of tea, a chat and some company. And some might show up simply because they need a haircut.
The barber shop (or beauty salon, as people called it back then ;) ) has been a feature of Habibi.Works since the very early days. Residents of Katsikas refugee camp took over the decoration and use of the space. Throughout the past years, the barber shop has moved around the space - from our former screen printing atelier, to the front veranda, to the outside shed, and most recently to the dome. With the installation of a new music studio inside the dome, it was clear that the barber shop couldn't simply disappear - it needed a new space! Well, we are happy to announce that it now has its own cozy nook.
