Haus Ethiopia e.V. wants to offer shelter and refuge to the homeless elderly, disabled and mentally ill of Addis Abeba by building a house these people can come home to.
There are many people living in the streets of Addis Abeba in makeshift shelters or no shelters at all- without family support or state aid. The construction of a home for these people in need is aimed at improving their living conditions regarding medical care, nutrition, shelter and hygiene. The building is planned in a way which will enable the residents to establish social contacts easily.
We are planning a low-tech construction, consciously renouncing expensive technologies and instead making use of simple and suitable principles. The home will be built with locally available materials in collaboration with local craftsmen and architects.
The building will be realized in six construction phases, to be handed over to our local partner organization after completion. The first construction phase is calculated to cost 118.000 Euro.
The CIM (Center for International Migration), a sub-organization of GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation) is our partner in this cause and with their know-how will ensure the local collaboration with the partners on-site as well as coordinate the financing of the architectural planning.
If we manage to collect 68.000 Euro before December 23th 2015, CIM has promised to contribute 50.000 Euro.
