About this project
A proposed rent increase of more than 300% is threatening the very existence of the Kita. For this reason, we are seeking to buy our current premises and to guarantee the long-term survival of the Kita. For this to succeed, we don’t only need the active support and involvement of current parents and colleagues, but also financial help from former parents, friends and external supporters.
Our Kita exists thanks to personal initiative, lots of volunteer effort, and a strong sense of community. Although the Kita is tiny, every year it sends groups of self-aware and trusting children off to school; in this respect, we are a small, but very important part of the community. We, the current parents at Kita Grasshopper, have taken over the ‘baton’ of responsibility for the institution from the parents who came before us. Help us to ensure that this work hasn’t been in vain and to build a stable foundation for lots more tiny Grasshoppers to be able to jump bravely into the future!
Background
A few months ago we learned that the owner of our rented premises intends to raise the monthly rent from € 800 to over € 3000. As Kitas are commercial tenants, this is legally permissible. However we are not in a position to absorb an increase of this magnitude in our tight budget. As the owner wishes to sell the premises as quickly as possible, we have the opportunity until the end of this year to buy the premises for a reasonable price. Even so, this price still represents an enormous financial challenge for a Kita run as a parent-run initiative.
Our plan is as follows:
We have secured the interest of a bank to finance our purchase, but currently have – through our reserves and parent donations – only € 61.000 of the € 70.000 we need to proceed with the purchase. We are looking for donations and supporters to cover the outstanding € 9.000 by the end of this year.
A donation to support the purchase of the Kita premises:
- Is tax deductible
- Supports the social infrastructure and diversity of the neighbourhood
- Contributes to the preservation of 5 jobs
Naturally, no one profits personally from this proposed arrangement and as the owner, the Kita’s parent association would be required – in the event the institution were to close – to sell the premises to another, equally socially-oriented institution or project.
Help us to preserve the neighbourhood and to guarantee an institution which generations of parents have built for the benefit of future generations of children.
