About this project

Therefore, the Red Cross builds wells and reservoirs (so called berkads) in the northwest of Somalia. These berkads are traditional water basins which collect surface water. Thus, villages in regions where wells run dry during the drought can be supplied with water for several months. In addition, locals are actively involved in the construction of berkads.
In addition to supplying access to water facilities, water filters are distributed to the families to reach an acceptable water quality. The filters are produced by the community itself in a small factory to strengthen the local economy. Moreover, the Red Cross conducts trainings to promote hygiene and health. Communities learn how to prevent diarrhoea, skin and eye diseases by proper hygiene behaviour.
Everyone has the right to clean water. Please support the people in Somalia with your donation. Clean water safes lives.
The following “needs” are examples of what your donation can achieve supporting the Red Cross work in Somalia.
Thank you very much for your support!!
Please note: betterplace transfers 100% of your donation to the German Red Cross. We retain 10% to cover for administration costs and for all costs to permanently maintain an infrastructure for immediate disaster response. This includes having a pool of qualified relief delegates and mainting emergency response units, e.g. for water treatment.
