    About this project

Maria and Emmanuel Z. from Wakitaka Youths Development Group (WYDG) is responsible for this project
Wakitaka Youth Development Group (WYDG) was registered as a Community Based Organization on 6th April, 2009. It is an initiative to help the youths of Wakitaka generate income through different micro projects in 1) poultry rearing; 2) goat rearing; 3) pig rearing; 4) vegetable garden; 5) arts and crafts production, and utilize their potential to address the key challenges facing the community for sustainable development, through HIV/Aids and malaria prevention. The initial group of 24 youth grows constantly as new animals are born and profits made.

The youth projects have been initiated through donations raised through Nabuur.com, a platform for online-volunteering, where the village features (http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/wakitaka) and the help of online volunteers that have played a great role in linking the Village to donors. The 50 percent of the profits a project makes goes to the group itself, while the other 50 percent are reinvested in the various community projects.

Mission: To have a team of youths actively involved in but not limited to income generating activities, health and environmental matters with the aim to fight against poverty, address the health and environmental challenges affecting the community respectively for sustainable development.

Vision: To have over 80% of the youths in the village actively involved in the activities of WYDG by year 2014.
