Premature babies are incredibly fragile and what we do during the first few weeks of life has great relevance. If you have the one in your own family - you know it without saying. The first step in a healthy preterm baby’s life is nutrition.
Newborns and their mothers are unprepared for a premature arrival into the world. Like we were. Like almost all families are. Mothers may have difficulty producing milk. Preterm babies with their tiny digestive systems can only take in small feeds. Human milk must therefore have the best nutritional quality to ensure growth, with preferably an individual plan for each baby. Because at this stage, every drop counts.
Human milk can be a lifesaver for sick or preterm babies. Apart from its nutritional properties, it kickstarts the immune system and provides hormones and enzymes that promote gut maturation and digestion.
Neonatal medicine has made great strides in the care of preterm babies. Thanks to a better understanding of nutrition we now know that human milk gives preterm babies the best start in life. There is a technology which helps to measure the macronutrient composition of human milk contributing to a better outcome for the baby, the family and the clinic. And you can be a part of it.
Miris Human Milk Analyser (HMA) provides a fast and simple way to uphold human milk as the primary source of nutrition for preterm infants during the first challenging weeks of life. The technology is fast and simple to use. With the minimum of time and fuss, the analyser gives energy, fat, carbohydrate, and protein content in human milk. This allows hospital staff to focus on the necessary intervention and supervision.
Every year in Lithuania ~2000 premature babies are born, however, there is no single hospital having such an analyser while in Holland, as an example, there is no hospital which does not have the one.
MC Charity foundation initiates this project and aims to raise 22.300 eur for Miris HMA Analyser to be granted to Children's Hospital Neonatal Center of Lithuania. We believe with your help and support we can make that happen. You can make that happen.
