The Urinal Project

About this project
Urine is an organic, cheap, renewable and effective fertilizer. Did you know that? Its true. An adult produces enough plant nutrients in their urine to grown nearly all of their food requirements!
How do we do it?
Refugees and displaced people are given urinals to use in the privacy and convenience of their tents. The urine is collected in plastic jerry cans, transported to a holding tank, sterilized and tested. Then it is brought to local farmers to spread on their fields or trees.
Why do we do it?
Women in large refugee camps are harassed and raped when going to the toilets at night. Young children and the elderly have a far walk to make it to the public toilets. This urinal will help protect and assist them.
The only emergency sanitation being implemented for refugees/displaced uses limited resources like fresh water and creates a pollution problem that is expensive and complicated to solve. Collecting and reusing urine can help reduce pollution, save fresh water and grow food.
