About this project
Thavamathy N. from Serendip Children’s Home is responsible for this project
Poverty and civil war drove many young, well-educated people especially from Northern Sri Lanka, to migrate to other continents. Meanwhile, most of them have created a home in a foreign country, started families and fought for a life on their own terms. They/we are very grateful for the life that we lead now.
However, with all this gratitude we cannot forget the youngsters/students who still live in poverty deprived of basic education.
Education is the first step on the way to eradicate poverty and it forms a platform to provide them an independent living. This project is about the students of Jaffna University in Sri Lanka. For many students the cost of their education is not affordable and cannot be self-financed, hence they depend on people like us.
The charity Serendip Children’s Home, financially supports 37 students at Jaffna University. Each of them receive around 3000 SLR = 20.14 Euro per Month, from the donations which they collect. 14 Students are going to finish their study successfully. But Serendip is struggling to raise sponsors for 23 of those students which equates to (23 x 3000 SLR = 69 000 SLR) 463.22 Euro monthly. They are going to study for the next 2 years which means 69 000 SLR x 24 months = 1 656 000 SLR = 11 117.28 Euro.
With our help, 23 students will get a basic fundamental education to improve their lives. We provide the students who are interested in taking their next career step, with an education, while supporting them financially and motivate them further.
Even a one-time donation can make a big difference! You can also support with a small monthly donation. If you can contribute just 1€ per week from your pocket money, salary or pension and if we can donate this, it would help those students to walk into their future and we can be proud of having provided them with that support.
We need your financial support, so that the future of 23 students at Jaffna University does not get wasted. Help us, so we can help them.

What happens with your donation? I have contacted Serendip via e-mail to find out about the project. We are going to collect donations with your help and it will be transferred to their account and onwards to the students. All this will be documented in their Homepage and you can follow the development of students there!
