    About this project

    M. Samean from Vulnerability and Illiteracy Reduction is responsible for this project
VULNERABILITY & ILLITERACY REDUCTION (VIR) is a Cambodian, non-governmental organization, unaffiliated to any political party or to any other entity, organization or business.

Formed in 2005, the past years have seen VIR conduct projects to protect the basic rights of the poorest families in the Siem Reap province. With the assistance of VIR, vulnerable people will have the freedom and knowledge to address issues which affect them and enable them to express their own ideas through participatory decision-making.

Currently we have a selection of programs running that have proven to make a substantial difference in the local villages. Their living standards have vastly improved and they now have the ability to create an income and save money. This allows them to send their children to school and create a lasting effect and long term benefit for the villages. We need your support to help to continue this amazing transformation and increase the amount of people we can help.

Our projects centre on providing the villagers with the education to create a sufficient lifestyle using their land. We do not just provide the educational guidance but most importantly we provide them with the vital kick start they need. This is either in the form of a small grant to buy chickens, or the rental of a cow that is ready to breed.

Our community meetings cover childcare advice, the importance of a hygienic lifestyle and how to save their money effectively.

A vital part of what we do is educating the villagers on their human rights. Most of them have not been to school and are unable to read or write, without our help and support they cannot decipher the information, this creates fear and anxiety within the communities, especially in such a developing country where change is happening continuously.

As a whole VIR concentrate on breaking down the barriers for villagers and remove them from isolation. Our mission is to contribute to the reduction of poverty by means of improving literacy, public health, human rights and law enforcement.
