    About this project

    A. Morell from Reclaiming Heritage is responsible for this project
Rebuild Haiti Homes is working with 30 families in the villages of Woch Blanche, Galette and La Fewone in the area of Croix-des-Bouquets. We already did 23 houses but we are still working to finish these first 30 houses and then could go on with the rest of the houses in the communities. Families are involved in the project in different ways. Some members work directly at the construction site building together all the homes in the community. A cooperative is also being set up to give other interested members of the villages the opportunity to participate in the construction workshops and building works. The idea is to form a small enterprise and give young haitians the chance to gain building skills for future job opportunities. Right now the cooperative works in guilds (wood works, concrete, iron...)

We are rebuilding simple houses, based on the traditional Haitian Kay House, which typically have one or two rooms with a porch providing space to sit outside. The idea is to build new, stronger structures against earthquakes and natural catastrophes using the rubbles and destroyed materials from the 2010 earthquake.

    The organisation

Reclaiming Heritage is a worldwide collective team that works on exploring the potentials of using reclaimed building materials for a sensitive post-disaster reconstruction.
