As part of the university group Engineers Without Borders – Karlsruhe Institute of Technology e.V., we
are motivated to make a contribution to improve the living conditions in southern Ethiopia. Long-
distance walks, heavy water cans and unpaved paths exacerbate the daily access to the most
important natural resource of all living things: water. Based on a hydrogeological report, we are
planning a well drilling near the villages Gocha and Gomole in the arid region called Konso. The
provision of a sustainable and long-term source for drinking water would facilitate the everyday life of the people and would strikingly increase their life expectations. Children that normally transport the water from the source to their village could attend a school by gaining time. Because of this acuteness, we are determined to implement the project till autumn 2015. Through the support of experts in Ethiopia, aid organizations and experienced scientists and engineers, we are strengthened to face this challenge.
