The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), a program organized by the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, the first of its kind in the country, trains chaplains to provide low cost and easily ‘ accessible care to people infected with HIV/AIDS and also trains for various institutions such as prisons, hospitals, schools and the Forces. The students also go to organize support and support HIV persons in different parts of the country where they come from
Matthew 25 started at St Dominc's Hospital, Akwatia and later on moved to Koforidua, all in the Eastern Region of Ghana with the highest concentration of AIDS.
In Ghana, hard hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, morbidity and mortality have risen and are expected to continue to rise, laying excessive steep on social support systems of almost every community. Health institutions and centers are inadequate and do not have sufficient staff or equipment to meet existing health needs let alone for the additional challenges resulting from alone or HIV/AIDS.
