    About this project

    S. Andrews from StandwithStan NPC is responsible for this project
StandwithStan Non-Profit & Public Benefit Organisation provides quality prosthetics, training & mentorship for disadvantaged amputees in South Africa.

If amputee statistics were available in our country, we would be taken aback at the extent of the number. The reality is that most South Africans living with physical disabilities are limited by national health restrictions, and we want to provide that care and welfare support to amputees in the community who are in need.

StandwithStan provides prosthetic solutions, while at the same time increases awareness and advocates for change.

Applications can be made by contacting our organisation directly, or on our website - by an amputee, or on behalf of an amputee. We also run a Community-based Outreach Awareness project, whereby local Community Health Clinics refer candidates to us. We currently have 15 applicants awaiting assistance.

Amputees wanting to be assisted are required to complete an application form which is then entered into the selection process. A selection committee is then given the task of choosing the next applicant based on various factors such as age, type of amputation, urgency, and motivation from the applicant.

We offer the following to our beneficiaries:
    • Supply, and maintenance of the prosthetic for as many years as necessary
(growing children could require up to four new prosthetics a year)
    • Initial evaluation by a prosthetist & physiotherapist, and three times per year
thereafter by a physiotherapist for mobility assessment
    • Inclusion in our Running Clinic project
    • Emotional support through ongoing mentorship
