Tree by tree – 50,000 Trees for the rainforest

Protecting rainforests is incredibly important for the health and the climate of our planet, not only because they store enormous amounts of CO2. They regulate the water supply, protect the land from landslides and floods with their roots, and are home to countless animals and plants.

Our tree plantations are always part of a larger project. We rely on many effective levers to protect trees - young and old - in a holistic way. Just as the challenges for each location are different, so is each tree plantation. Only by taking this into account can we ensure that the little trees grow well and, as strong trees, can make a real contribution to stabilizing the climate and their ecosystem. This begins in the tree nursery: We plant the trees that we have grown here only in suitable areas and care for them, respectively protect them - at least for another three years until they have grown well!

We are active worldwide with our rainforest protection projects , e.g. in Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
At the coast of Honduras, for example, we are planting mangroves as part of an extensive conservation project. To protect the mangrove forests from an increasing flood of trash, we are also working with the local communities to develop better waste management and carry out important educational work.
Meanwhile, our new project at Lake Amatitlán in Guatemala has the goal of replanting bare areas with strategic forest restoration to stabilize the region's water balance, prevent further erosion, and stop the loss of biodiversity.

In total, OroVerde was able to plant 385,994 trees in 2021 - a very nice success, thanks to your great help!
 
In addition to this great number, there are also agricultural plants, such as coffee or such trees, which are reasonably used - instead of the rainforest - for local firewood needs, because they grow back quickly. With the help of forest gardens (agroforst systems), we break a dramatic vicious circle and ensure that rainforest is not repeatedly (fire-)cleared for fertile soil - with many benefits for the forest and the population!
