    About this project

    G. Chophel from Youth Media Center is responsible for this project
With the growing population, Thimphu is experiencing diverse youth related problems such as social alienation, substance abuse, the juvenile delinquency, unemployment, and many more. Looking at the current trend, the juvenile crime is causing more concern and anxiety to the society. It is indeed painful for the general public to see the audacious youth commit various crimes like battery, stabbing, robbery, and gang fights. Likewise, a case of substance abuse is one of the highest among those registered with the Thimphu district court, involving mostly youth. It is even abhorrent to see young people committing suicide. The youth related crimes kept on increasing in spite of having stringent laws.
The contributing factors for increasing youth related problems are:
    i. Value education
    ii. Unemployment
    iii. Different income levels
    iv. Living standard
    v. Rural-Urban migration(culture and living style)
vi. Exposure to the world (Globalization)
    vii. Family bondage (Social Capital)
    viii. Peer Pressure
Henceforth, Youth Media Center is undertaking a project titled “Part time employment to 100 disadvantaged youths in Thimphu”. The project is targeted towards giving part time employment opportunities to disadvantaged youth and teaches them to earn, be independent and instill the sense of dignity of labour. The project is a fast food restaurant managed by youth and it is an alcohol and substance free place. Youths will be employed in the restaurant on an hourly basis for a maximum of two hours a day, providing balanced time for studies.
    The project will address:
    1. Supporting disadvantaged youth with wages as remuneration.
    2. Engaging young Bhutanese during after school hours, holidays and vacations.
    3. To instill the dignity of labour among young people.
    4. Training them how to earn and sustain in their life.
    5. Teaching them with basic skills in life (management, public relation, confidence, etc)
    6. To train youth to become entrepreneurs.
    7. To reduce youth related problems in the country.
    8. Building youth into productive and responsible citizen.
