Hi all,
In April I will head to Ghana for 3 months in order to support the Ghanaian not-for-profit organisation ARUDMO (African Rural Development Movement) as a volunteer.
ARUDMO is working towards sustainable rural developement in West Africa and thus strengthening communities.
I will live in the rural community of Liati and assist teachers in the local school there. Currently, there are two major projects in Liati I would like to raise funds for before my departure.
Firstly, in Liati the community is currently building a residence for international volunteers and visitors.
Apart from being used for volunteers, this residence can also be used for touristic purposes and therefore generate an income for the community.
Secondly, ARUDMO has developed a program called the Queen Mothers Initiative Project, as a port of this project the organisation provides communities with goats. This scheme seeks to strengthen women and create possibilities, whilst laying down a financial foundation for the community. Collectively, this gives the families the opportunity to raise their standard of living.
Goats are particularly robust animals that can, unlike cows for instance, cope better with changing environmental conditions and thus survive easily in dry areas.
Additionally, keeping goats is cheaper and less risky when compared to other farm animals. For the families in Liati, goats are an important valuable investment and they also supply milk and meat which contribute to a balanced diet.
In West African culture, goats are also used as gifts to strengthen relationships.
I will transfer 100% of the donations to ARUDMO face-to-face once I am in Ghana.
ARUDMO can follow this fundraising online which guarantees transparency and that the whole money will be used for the projects mentioned above.
I would be grateful if a lot of people could donate to such a worthy cause in order to change the lives of others for the better. A little goes a long way.
One goat costs GHS 120, which corresponds to about 34 €. All other donations will be used for the residence.
