Background: Establishing a Learning Center in Cambodia as part of the WHU General Management Plus Program
The main objective of WHU General Management Plus Program besides the theoretical business background is to plan and implement a social project. In conjunction with the social enterprise BOOKBRIDGE we established another Learning Center in Cambodia. Our Learning Center is located in Tonloab, in Kirivong District, in the province of Takeo which is one of the poorest provinces in one of the poorest countries in the world. Kirivong is located south of Takeo and has 114,294 inhabitants. Agriculture, especially rice cultivation, is the main source of income in the region.
The Learning Center:
BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab will offer classes for children, teenagers and adults. The main focus is to provide English and computer lessons. We aim to prepare the participants for the job market for which they would not otherwise be adequately qualified. In addition, more courses for adults will be offered, these will be designed according to the community needs. BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab offers free access to its library with more than 7.000 donated books. Thanks to the donation of laptops by Nokia Germany, BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab is equipped with a computer lab. BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab was inaugurated on May 2nd, 2014 and the courses will officially start in June 2014.
The concept of the Learning Center aims for self-sustainability after some years. The goal is to invest their profits in the Learning Center. The first centers have overcome this challenge. BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab will offer to children and teenagers a range from Basic English to more advanced courses as well as Basic Khmer and Mathematics. English courses are about 4 to 5 EUR per month.
Help via betterplace.org:
Unfortunately many families cannot afford this amount. We, the students of the General Management Program Plus have launched a Scholarship Program for the BOOKBRIDGE Learning Center Tonloab. We want to have as many students as possible. By granting scholarships people from Tonloab will have more access to education. In addition we need support in order to cover some infrastructure costs.
The students of the General Management Plus Program and the BOOKBRIDGE Team will appreciate your donations.
