Mekerie is a long forgotten former county town in the region of Gonder (Ethiopia). During the 16. and 17. century, Gonder was known as a center for politics, administration, culture, and education. Over the last few centuries, it has lost this status. Today, after three decades of civil war and negligence, the region’s condition is one of chaos. The lack of social and economic structure paired with unemployment left the people of Gonder in miserable situations.
The hunger is constantly increasing. Proper school and training facilities are missing, and there is an acute shortage of job opportunities. The health care is much less than even basic and no help in keeping diseases from spreading. All of that foretells a bleak and hopeless future for most of the adolescents of Gonder.
We and our project “Hamburger mit Herz e.V.” want to change that, because we believe that every child of this Earth deserves a bright future. For that reason, we have been supporting the school of Mekerie for many years with donations and know-how. This year, members of our project are going to travel to Ethiopia once again bringing desperately needed tools, school equipment, and much more to Mekerie.
Because education changes everything.
Our appeal to you: The support for this school and these poor people must not stop! If you want to help our cause, please donate any sum of money that seems appropriate to you.
Also, we always keep an eye out for the poorest of the poor in Mekerie, and we watch the health and hygiene of the village.
